Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Her first roles on television included two episodes on the show as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on The ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mom. Perry was forbidden to perform with her parents till she reached adulthood, as they feared the stress it would create. Perry stated that she was too nervous to be an actor in high school but began acting in theater classes at Northwestern University as a way to meet new people after she transferred from Boston University. When she graduated, Perry relocated to New York to search for television work landing small roles in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent however, her homesickness led Perry back home to California which is where she discovered acting jobs. The Other Place was performed by her and her mother on Broadway in 2013 The father of her Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning drama Anna Christie with her in 2015. Perry played a part in nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. Her father played her character in the ABC drama Scandal. That same year the actress was selected to play the younger version of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen character of her mom's. The actress was chosen for the role in spite of her strong relationship with the character's family.
