Lisa Olivia Munn was conceived in Oklahoma City. She was the daughter of Kimberly Schmid, lived in Vietnam as well, and she has Chinese heritage, while her father, Winston Barrett Munn, comes from a family that has long-standing roots in the American South. The couple split when she was just two years old. She was raised by her mother as well as her stepfather who is a United States Air Force officer. The family stayed all over, her main home is Tokyo, Japan. At the time, she was a part of several stage productions. Then she was an Japanese model. Olivia moved back in Los Angeles after the family's relocation to the United States. She pursued her ambition of becoming an actress.
