Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At age 27 he began his studies at the National Theatre School of Denmark and was graduated in the year 1995. In addition to his appearance in the drama series released globally as The Killing, he subsequently appeared in two other internationally well-known Danish drama series, Those Who Kill and Borgen III. He also had a leading role in an episode of the BBC drama Sherlock as the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. In the American television show House of Cards, he played the role of the president of Russia. In 2018, he took home an International Emmy Award for his part as the president of Russia in the Danish television drama Herrens Veje. It was broadcast in the UK in 2019. According to Mikkelsen, he learned English from his older brother by listening to Monty Python recordings and watching the sketches of comedy.
